What to Expect

Whether or not you have been to therapy before, it's common to experience some anxiety leading up to the first session. Here you'll find an overview of what you can expect from our sessions together.

1 / First Part of Your Session

Before starting your initial session, we'll go over any questions you may have about the process of therapy and review any required consent forms. After completing the necessary paperwork, we'll conduct a Comprehensive Clinical Assessment. This is one of the few times you will see the counselor writing information down as you are speaking. This assessment allows us to learn more about your background, family life, current stressors, and your reason for seeking counseling.

2 / Second Part of Your Session

Once the assessment is completed, we will discuss your goals for therapy and ways in which I can best assist you in reaching your goals. Depending on your needs and goals, we'll utilize various treatment modalities including Brainspotting, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered TherapyGestalt Therapy, and more.  Despite the treatment used, the biggest predictor of your success through treatment relies on your comfort level in disclosing your thoughts, feelings, and experiences to your therapist that you would otherwise hide or avoid telling to others in your life. Therefore, our first and most important focus is to develop a relationship built on trust and mutual understanding, which will allow us to work together in a productive and positive manner.

3 / Final part of Your Session

We will end the session by discussing next-steps and scheduling any follow-up appointments.
